Terdesak March 1, 2009

Apa nak buat bila dah terdesak?

Dah 25 bulan kat bumi Sheffield nih. Menggelabah sebab belum upgrade ke PhD lagi. Ada member kata biasalaa.. native speaker pun upgrade lepas 24 bulan. Erkk.. tapi supervisor dah siap tanya dah.. ada personal problem ke lately yg sampai nampak cam slow semacam je compared ngan before? Heheh.. kalau nak citer pasal personal problem tu.. hmm.. sampai esok pun tak habis. Hmm..

Jadi apa agaknya nak buat kalau supervisor bagi sampai Rabu depan je utk send in last chapter? Honest.. dah 3 chapters sent.. so ni kira chapter 4, last to be sent to qualify for upgrade. Yeah.. yeah.. rasa nak lari je.. tapi lari setempat gitu. Lol. Oh yea.. bila dah terdesak camni, kenalah tido siang and berjaga malam. Dok kat lab sampai subuh. Berhenti keje cleaner. Lol.

Huhu.. dah 3 weeks dah berhenti keje. Dah 1 week lak masuk lab malam and tak tido kat rumah. Ni kena pulun habis nih. Ingatkan malam ni malam terakhir bermalam kat lab.. tetiba kena malware infection laks PC nih. SafeSoft trojan. So sesape yang terkena tu.. silalah refer di sini ek. InsyaAllah boleh OK tuh. Cara lain tak jalan wehh.. Good luck!

Wow.. brand new year! January 4, 2009

It’s been sometime since I last visit WordPress. What a change! I am now thinking hard.. trying to decide which is the best tool to adapt to link everything up and make my life simpler. Let me see.. things I don’t want to throw away : My WordPress (coz I’ve tried some other blogs as comparison) and my Facebook. I now have a Flickr account that I pay every year to get extra storage space but need to use external tool to edit the pics beforehand (red-eye reduction, blurry, sharp and contrast etc). So in a nutshell, Flickr is a bit time and money wasting. It’s easy to manage my pics with Flickr though, and I have tons of pics in there as well! Well.. if I can invest some time to investigate further about Picasa and decide which is better, I would have the answer!

The thing about Flickr that I don’t like.. well.. actually, I love the fact about Fotopages that allow u to upload unlimited pics and write things about your pics. It relates directly your pics and connect ideas that you want to present especially to your readers that won’t bother to click multiple pages to get their heads round. But.. the major disadvantage about Fotopages that stop me is : the ridiculous amount of time needed to upload your pics. Not suitable for me, though.. I’m not that patient. LOL.

So.. let’s see if I can have my WordPress linked with any of my Picasa/Flickr. I love the fact about Picasa that it does come with editing tool as well(not like Flickr). So.. let’s see..

Hey.. hey.. got the answer for the time being. Now that WordPress has included Flickr widgets, so I might use Flickr widget for the time being. As the problem with editing tools.. I might try Picasa or Picnik! I’ve tried Picnik before and it looks good.

I’ve tried Photobox for free photo printing. It’s rubbish. Edited photos using Picnik turned out to be dull and darker than it should be. Now I’m trying ArtCows from Hong Kong – with 1200 free prints, just see if it is any good ;-)

Using Google Calendar with wordpress January 1, 2008

Filed under: Techie — shereen @ 1:27 am

Today I’m thinking of embedding Google Calendar in my blog, so that families in MY can look what is happening to us here in Sheffield. And also I could remind myself (and everyone else, maybe) of some important upcoming events. Looked for some clue, and found it here : Helen Nerdy’s blog (thanks gurl!). I’m going to try it. Good luck to all..

Does your mind need a lifecycle management tool? November 13, 2007

Huargh..ha.. ha.. I read this article today as part of my quest to upgrade my knowledge in Information Studies field. Michael Lynch lab(the research lab that I’m working now) have this kind of practice where they would circulate subscribed mags and journals to research staff, hoping they will be read and benefits the researchers in some ways. Who is the writer? I didn’t bother to know him, no one had introduced him to me anyway. But I might have to know him soon – he’s funny and hillarious. He made me smile today.. Check out the article : http://www.iwr.co.uk/information-world-review/comment/2193984/does-brain-lifecycle-management

‘Wouldn’t it be great to stamp our thoughts with an expiry date and have a little pinger go off when it’s time to revisit? Then we’d be able to junk or update them, instead of having them fossilise or turn into prejudice.’

‘..Just as documents have a lifecycle, so do our thoughts.’

Anyway, his article reminds me that it’s OK to fossilise some of things happened in our life. And thus, I would delete names that I wouldn’t want to see again in this blog – and still, as time goes by, I might add up the same names again in the future.. we’ll see ;-) (hope not!)

Ya tuhan.. I’m so sarcastic these days, am I?

Time to get professional now.. David(the writer) suggested trying Netvibes as digital life manager, a tool to gather information feed, e-mail tip-offs and searches. Recently I’m using iGoogle (not so sophisticated but cute enough) to gather Google e-mails and few useful gadgets (like beauty tips of the day, horoscopes, world clocks, currency converter, countdown timer, live weather etc).

Previously I have mentioned about referring to some of popular blogs for recent techie updates (and also some cute personal blogs-I do admire one blogger, secretly) but I haven’t been there for ages, honestly(I feel guilty now). I might need to use Netvibes to gather the RSS feed so that I don’t look so stupid and feel so ashame of myself :-D

Ohh.. while writing this entry, I did checked out the website : http://www.netvibes.com/. It looks awesome! I might try it soon. Hope I won’t be spending too much time on those ;-)

Time to get back to work.

Some tangging that will be used in my blog (easier to paste it here to be used next time, since wordpress lack of few graphic/techie bits).

1. <span style=”background-color: #ffcccc”>Alamat flickr : www.flickr.com/shereen_ma
Output : Alamat flickr : www.flickr.com/shereen_ma

2.
The paragraph here will be formatted as justified. Try few paragraph to see the results. Should works… good luck!

Output :

The paragraph here will be formatted as justified. Try few paragraph to see the results. Now can we try it to publish it as some paragraph. Know what? When I read some of the post before, rasa cam nak delete je tapi too late kan?.. History mana boleh delete patutnya. Well.. dah ada few paragrah. Let’s see. Should works… good luck!
